2015 sees a shift in Bridal makeup trends especially for Asian Brides in the UK (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Sri Lankan). Even back home in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka the Bridal Makeup trends are forecast to change dramatically. Seems like in this circle of trends we are either following the trends from back home or maybe they are following the UK!!! What was too dramatic back home (Arabic makeup with a flicks and bold glittery colours) is now catching on and what was too subtle in UK is now becoming more mainstream (in some areas of the UK).
We continue to see Asian Brides in UK still preferring the “OTT” (Over The Top) makeup looks (especially in the North UK and cities such as Manchester, Bradford, Leeds, Blackburn, Preston, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Newcastle, Liverpool etc.) Arabic / Smokey eyes makeup with lots of glitter and flicks is still preferred by these Asian Brides in the North – however, we are seeing more and more girls that are also, during their Makeup Trials, preferring a more “subtle” look. By subtle look, I mean, no flicks, traditional and soft colours of shades for eyes and for blushers. For eyes makeup, we are seeing traditional bronze/golden, aqua/silver, emerald/golden making a comeback – these schemes have been popular back home for quite some time.
For the brides in the areas that we cover in the south and middle of UK such as London, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Rugby, Coventry, and Cardiff – the preference is still subtle makeup – however, just like back home – we are seeing the Asian Brides in these areas trying the more bold bridal makeup looks (that are a mainstay of Asian Brides in the North). Heavy and glittery makeup with lots of “bling” and flicks and fusion of various contrasting colours is also catching on quite rapidly.
Overall these changes are dramatic and challenging and will give the makeup artists a chance to work in different environments. MUA’s (Makeup Artists) in the north of UK who are not able/used to doing subtle makeup will definitely need training to develop these skills. Likewise, MUA’s in the south and middle of UK will need to develop the challenging techniques in order to do proper flicks and the “heavy” OTT makeup.
