With Ramadan almost over and with the resumption of the summer season (High Season) for Asian Weddings, I wanted to take a chance to talk about the Asian Wedding Photography and Asian Wedding Videography (Cinematic) trends that we are seeing in the market. We are getting a lot of feedback from our team based in London which provides wedding and videography coverage’s not only in and around London but also in territories to the south west, south east, south and up to Midlands. These areas are predominantly Croydon, Guildford, Basingstoke, Winchester, Reading, Oxford, Swindon, Towbridge, Bath, Southampton, Portsmouth, Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Folkestone, Dover, Canterbury, Margat, Southend-on-Sea, Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswhich, Cambridge, Bedford, Northampton, Kettering, Peterborough, Cheltenham, Bristol, Torquay, Plymouth, Weymouth, Dorchester, Poole, Bournemouth and all surrounding areas.
A lot of the trends are derived from the wedding coverage styles taking place back home in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka – having said that – we are also seeing an infusion of “Western” trends with our Asian themed weddings. For example, for 2015 and 2016 wedding season, based on the itineraries and wedding plans, we are seeing more and more Asian Weddings with 2 functions in a single day. Just like our Non – Asian clients, we are seeing some Asian Clients requesting Photography and Videography coverage for a “Formal” function (Nikah) during the daytime and then an “informal” reception during the evening. We are also seeing a lot of families preferring to do 2 Mehndis (one from the groom side and one from the brides side) – its probably because there are so many guests and since Mehndi is the function where the bride and groom as well as the family and guest can “let loose”.
In the styles of Photography for the Asian Weddings that we are covering we are seeing a lot of “informal” styles. Years ago we would get a request for “formal” shots with the family but now we are seeing more and more families preferring to have their photos taken with the bride and groom not on the stage but sitting with them around a table or lounging on the sofa’s. Such informal photography is a pleasure to capture as the environment is very relaxed – after all, if all the pictures are “Formal” and since the bride and groom have to smile on cue – it can make the whole process tiresome.
Our Asian clients who are getting married still prefer a separate shoot as this gives them an ample opportunity to have “romantic” shots taken and usually it is these pictures that we see our clients requesting us to enlarge or make the cover of the photo album.
For videography – we are still seeing a lot of requests by our Asian clients for “Cinematic”. Even though some elements of “cinematic” can be achieved by a single camera person – in order to have a full and dramatic coverage of a wedding that is cinematic, it is essential to have multiple camera persons using a variety of equipment in order to get that cinematic effect. We are seeing a lot of choreography being put in (a lot of professional dancers along with the bride and groom, their friends and family are actually practicing to the songs together that they would perform to on the wedding and especially on Mehndi).
