Lehengas
As 2016 approaches, Asian women are still seen ardently following the tradition of wearing lehengas on their weddings. However, with the change in times, lehenga designs have also changed. Modern designers have made the lehengas less heavy and they are now paired with long kurtis and heavily-embroidered dupattas. Although lehengas are now coming in a variety of colours, Asian brides still prefer them in red and maroon colours complemented with lighter borders (mostly golden or silver) for the main wedding day (Baarat). For Walima/Reception functions, lehengas in multiple shades are preferred.
Tail Gowns
Another trend that is observed in Asian bridal outfit in 2016 is the profuse addition of tail gowns which are rapidly gaining popularity among would-be Asian brides. A combination of red or maroon with golden or silver embroidery is largely in vogue. The long back tail imparts elegance to the overall aura of the bride and also reminds us of the dignified Mughal princesses hence making it an apt attire for modern Asian brides. Gowns may also be accompanied by long shirts with a front or side slit.
Frocks with Churidar Pajamas
Frocks are never out of fashion, and churidar pajamas are a must-have with them giving the bride a sleek and graceful look. In 2016, frocks still dominate the bridal outfit. Anarkali frocks with heavy embroidery are still used profusely in weddings. Bridal dresses also include long frocks which maybe pleated or panel pleated. The frocks have a huge flare and vary in length depending upon the bride’s choice. Dupattas maybe heavily embroidered or have a band of embroidery all around.
Maxis
Maxi dresses are a nice addition in 2016 bridal outfit. It is a modern and classy bridal attire. The best thing about this dress is that it can be designed in a number of patterns
and styles. It may fall in a wide flare at the bottom or may be back-tailed; it is all up to the bride’s choice. Just like all other bridal dresses, maxis also come in a variety of colours. However, for baarat, red and maroon colours are preferred while pastel tones or soft colours—skin, pink, cream, faun, cyan, peach etc.—are used for walima functions.
Sarees
Sarees are considered to be purely Indian attire; however, 2016 has seen a change in perspective as sarees have also been added in Pakistani and other Asian bridal outfit collections. Indian-style sarees with heavy embroidery have been selected as the dresses for baarat while walima functions are also seen decorated with sarees in bright colours. This sleek outfit gives a traditional look to the bride ensuring a strong link to her native country.
