Since we mostly cover Asian Weddings in most of the UK through our regional teams based in Manchester, Birmingham, London, Cardiff and Glasgow, and since so many of you are curious about the equipment that we mostly use for photography and videography at these weddings, as a photographer, I wanted to give you an idea of the various equipment we use. This might also be a good guide for amateur photographers and videographers who are thinking of taking their hobby to the next level.
Due to the increased and rapid advancement in technology, as a photographer and videographer that mostly covers Asian Weddings, we have to keep on top of the latest trends and new equipment that makes it to the market.
Asian Weddings might require different techniques to capture than a Non-Asian Wedding. Besides the obvious lighting challenges – a good Asian Wedding Photographer and Videographer will keep in mind the reality that most of the Asian Weddings are “Big” – the number of guest can easily cross a couple of hundred. There is an influx of colour and traditions that needs to be captured and generally it is better to have more than 1 camera person available to capture these weddings.
To capture a very fast moving “Scenes / Asian Weddings” – that might have a lot of non-choreographed elements you will need to make sure that the equipment is high-grade and professional. Most of our regional teams in Manchester, Birmingham, London and Cardiff that cover these Asian Weddings use professional Canon equipment. We use full-frame DSLR cameras that we use both for photography and lately for videography as well. My personal favourite these days is the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. Generally we use a battery grip in order to give us extra power to capture some Asian Weddings that might run for almost 12 hours continuous!!! for Asian Videography coverage’s in the UK (Manchester, Birmingham, London, Cardiff, and Glasgow) we also use various sliders, specialized tripods, and for cinematic effects we would use steady cams, tracks, jigs / rigs.
For lens – we use a mix of Fixed and Zoom lens. For Canon we generally use “L” series professional lens. Most of the zoom lens have “USM” features that can auto-focus very quickly – a very important feature for fast-moving action (Like dancing) etc. that you might need to capture at an Asian Wedding. In my kit right now I have 70-200 f2.8, 85mm 1.2, 50mm 1.4, 40 – 70 f4, and 18 – 35 f4 lens. Our teams also carry flashes and prefer Canon Speedlight EX600. We also tend to carry external LED lights for continuous coverage especially for Asian Wedding Videography aspect of the business.
For Asian Weddings and at Wedding Venues that are Photographer / Videographer friendly (meaning that they have space and sockets etc. available for the wedding photographers and videographers) – we also like to use Soft Boxes that gives us more control over lighting but having a good camera with high ISO such as Canon EOS 5D Mark III we can generally compensate for poor lighting.
